“Ядерная физика” и IBM x3950

IBM x3950Как известно, ядерный физик – это человек, который удовлетворяет своё любопытство за государственный счёт. И в этом они в чём то схожи с системным администратором. По работе мне выдался шанс “пощупать” IBM X Series. IBM x3950 оказалась ничего так машинка, быстрая. SLES-10sp1-x86_64 поставился на неё совершенно без проблем. До SUSE я загружал разные LiveCD: DSL, FreeBSD 7.0 – вроде всё работало. При установке всё железо распозналось системой. В общем-то процесс мало чем отличался от инсталляции на обычный PC – даже скучно как-то. А вот что в результате получилось:

Весьма примечательно, что 4 процессора “развернулись” в 16: 4 процессора, по 2 ядра, каждое с гипертритингом – вот в итоге и вышло столько.

Что ещё в итоге сказать? Жёсткие диски не очень большие (зеркало на 73 ГБ), так как основные объёмы носителей будут использованы на хранилищах.

Ну естественно, это только начало и “бесчеловечные опыты” продолжатся. Думаю, когда-нибудь руки дойдут и до P Series 🙂
